Protecting Your Personal Information
In 2001, the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC) issued guidance on Authentication in an Electronic Banking Environment (2001 Guidance). In an FFIEC article entitled “Authentication in an Internet Banking Environment”, the 2001 Guidance focused on risk management controls necessary to authenticate the identity of retail and commercial customers accessing Internet-based financial services.
The article goes on to say that account fraud and identity theft are frequently the result of single-factor authentication (i.e. ID/password). Since it was determined that single-factor authentication was inadequate, multi-factor authentication, layered security, or other controls reasonably calculated to mitigate those risks should be implemented.
We are committed to protecting the confidentiality of your personal information. As part of this effort, effective May 1, 2008, we enhanced the security of the bank’s website by introducing a new login process for our customers. You will be asked to select a site image and login phrase for your Internet Banking account. This site image and login phrase will be displayed each time you access your account in the future. When you see this image, you’ll know you are on the authentic pinnaclebancshares.com website.
Pinnacle Bank customers will be required to register the following items the first time they enter the web site:
Enter a Username
Answers to canned questions (i.e. Mother’s maiden name)
Select a Login phrase
Select an image used for identification
A persistent cookie will be set on the registering PC’s browser.
Upon accessing the bank’s web site, the customer will be:
- Prompted to enter their username
- The system will check for set persistent cookies on the customer’s browser. If the persistent cookie is not found, the system will prompt the customer with additional security questions and answers that the customer specified during registration.
